Digital Pointed Notation Guide
This guide presents the Digital Pointed Notation (DPN) system for Orthodox Christian liturgical music—a practical notation method developed from the work of Father Michael Fortunato and extended with digital innovations.
The DPN uses readily available keyboard symbols to indicate pitch movements, note lengths, and ornaments, making it accessible to both music readers and non-specialists. The system is designed around the Octoechos (the eight liturgical tones) and the Russian Obikhod tradition.
It also includes a numbered scale-degree system (ison) for notating the bass part.
This guide covers the notation basics, music theory foundations, and real-world examples of how the system is applied to liturgical texts, making it practical for church musicians and chanters.
